Don't plan on a batch still for fuel ethanol.

A batch still is a still where the full volume of mash is all heated at the same time in one large boiler during distillation. This approach has several disadvatages when compared to a continuous still:

1) boiler needs to be physical larger to contain the entire batch volume.
2) start up times could be long if the boiler is large.
3) difficult to use heat recovery.

For these reasons, if anyone is serious about fuel ethanol, forget about a batch still. Use a continuous still.
